What Is Bum Marketing: How to Make Money with a $5 Budget

I had absolutely zilch because I had maxed out 7 credit cards. I used to laugh when I read about others doing that with just two, but I did it myself – in spades! My only word to you would be very careful how you use PPC programs like Adwords because I wasn't. But that's another story.

I discovered bum marketing because if there is one thing I am good at, it is writing. Bum marketing involves finding a profitable niche, or one that could be profitable. It has to be something with a reasonable large following, and a reasonable number of topics attached to it. Like fly fishing or quilting, or something Something that is followed by people you would expect to have money. You don't want people flinching at paying $97 for a product related to their hobby or interest.

You then have to find some decent keywords. For bum marketing it doesn't matter too much if there is competition for them, but not too general. Not 'quilting' but perhaps 'hand quilting machines' or 'deep throat quilters'. Then get a website set up. You can a cheap functional site for under $5 a month and then set up a website. A sales page for a product and a few pages with some content. If you can get it, register a domain name that is the same as, or relates to, one of the keywords you have chosen.

Write a few articles on the topic of your website, and use one for each of the web pages. Bum marketing is all about article writing. should have one web page for each keyword you are using relating to your website. Find a few products to sell. If you have your own then great, but if not sell affiliate products.

Then write a few more articles and submit them to article directories. Each directory will allow you what is known as an 'Author's Resource Box' in which you can say a little about yourself provide a URL for people to click on for more information. The URL should lead to a page that relates to the topic of the article, and should ideally be a text link with the keyword or phrase that is the title of your web page. The text link should be hyperlinked to the page; what is termed an 'active' link'.

If the directory does not specifically provide a Resource Box, you can add that information after your article. It has to be included and will go with your article whenever it is copied and used. The article will not only bring you traffic, but also valuable links back to your web pages.

It is important that you continue to write and keep pumping out new articles. I like to write two every week and send them off to the top 25 directories. That's all to do because most of the top 25 provide material to other directories, and before you know it your articles are all over the internet. That's bum marketing.

The presidential visit to Turkey

I will leave the critiques and analyses of American President Barack Obama’s visit to Turkey to the political pundits to debate. For me, an American expat who is also a Turkish citizen, Obama’s trip to Turkey was a very moving experience.

Before moving to Turkey 11 years ago, I lived in Washington, D.C. During my time spent in America’s capital, in the course of my work and through connections, I had the privilege to meet many politicians, diplomats and heads of state from across the globe. However, until President Obama’s visit to Turkey, I had never gone out of my way to merely catch a glimpse of a politician. When President George W. Bush came to İstanbul in 2004, I stayed home, not feeling the slightest urge to see the president of my own country, even from a distance. My attitude was partly due to the fact that he was not my choice for leader, and I did not agree with many actions my country had taken while he had been in office. With President Obama’s journey to my adopted country, however, I suddenly found myself flooded with patriotism, and like many other expats, I hoped for the chance to see the president, even if it was just to wave as he drove by on his way from one meeting to another.

I grew up in the United States at a time of great social upheaval as the Civil Rights Movement gained strength across the country. I remember sitting in front of the television with my family, watching as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. addressed the crowd gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Even though I was young and most probably did not understand a lot that was going on at the time, his words moved us all. Over the years, I have seen my homeland become entrenched in wars abroad and have witnessed firsthand its growing pains as citizens of all colors, all ages and all economic backgrounds struggled to have their voices heard by those in power. To me, the election of Obama to the highest office in America signaled a giant step in my country’s journey to fulfill the dream of not just Dr. King, but the vast majority of Americans: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

President Obama is the 11th president I have seen elected in my life. He is, to me, by far the one who brings the greatest hope for change. He is also the first president who I feel truly represents our country for the global melting pot that it is. I watched in November as the election results came in, and I was immensely proud to be an American, which was something I had not felt during the previous eight years. I sat with my son and wept with joy and relief when it was official that Obama had clearly won the election. My son and I later sat together in our home in İstanbul and watched the inauguration of our 44th president. Hugging my son close to me, I again cried with joy.

Knowing that President Obama was coming to İstanbul, my 8-year old son declared that he wanted to see him on his first official visit to Turkey. I decided to allow him to skip a day of school and come with me to İstanbul’s historic Sultanahmet neighborhood, where the president would come to visit the Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque. We crossed the Bosporus the day before the president’s visit and spent the night in Sultanahmet to avoid any possible problems in getting around the city on the day of his visit to the area. Security was tight, with a large police presence throughout the area and barricades were already in place. There was an air of excitement as tourists and locals spoke about the impending official visit. Even the police were cheerful and chatty, in spite of a stress-filled day ahead as security preparations went on through the night.

The next morning, we wound our way behind lines of police who were carefully scrutinizing the sparse crowd of tourists, students and workers. We met up with two Canadian friends who were also hoping for a presidential sighting. As it got closer to the time of his visit, we headed upstairs to one of the hotel restaurants offering a view of both monuments. As we entered, my son and I were greeted by cheers from the three tables of tourists already waiting to catch sight of Obama and his entourage. Laughing as we posed, my son and I modeled our Obama inaugural T-shirts, emblazoned with a portrait of the president and the motto “Yes We Can,” for the group.

As we all waited for Obama’s arrival, we all chatted, feeling a sense of camaraderie in our witnessing of a historic trip together. Americans, Germans, Brits, Canadians and Turks, we all eyed the entrance to the Hagia Sofia, knowing that the motorcade was approaching as the helicopters hovered overhead. As the first car in the procession came into view, we all began cheering wildly and hugging one another. Strangers just a few minutes before, we were transformed into friends, quickly trading places so that everyone could have a chance to snap photos of the entourage as they entered the Hagia Sofia. Soon they exited the Hagia Sofia, and the small crowd made its way across the park towards the Blue Mosque. Cheering began again as we all craned to pick out the president among the group of dignitaries. “I see him!” shouted my son in excitement as he pointed to our president, who stood out among the group.

Knowing that they would exit the Blue Mosque and get into their vehicles on the Hippodrome, well out of sight from our vantage point, we drank tea and waited for the streets to clear before leaving the hotel. We all spoke of the hope we felt with this new president of the United States. The common theme, from all nationalities present, was that even though the world was facing a mounting economic crisis and wars and political upheaval were still ongoing, for the first time in years there seemed to be the feeling that the United States now had the chance to change some of its policies and get back on the right course again.

None of us expects change to be instantaneous. However, the excesses and abuse of power of the last few years do seem to be ending. It will take hard work, perseverance and patience to try to solve the problems that President Obama has inherited. The main thing, to me, is that we finally have hope for change. As my son and I began our trip back to our home on the Asian side, he smiled and said: “I am so glad I got to see the president. He makes me happy. I hope he can do his job well.” I nodded my head in agreement.

Şampiyona şoke eden gözaltı

Kilosunda dünya şampiyonluğu bulunan milli karateci Yaser Şahintekin (24), Türkiye Şampiyonası için geldiği Denizli'de evrakta sahtecilik suçlamasıyla gözaltına alındı.

Gece yarısından maçların başlayacağı sabaha saatlerine kadar nezarette tutulan sporcu, federasyon yetkililerinin devreye girmesiyle, özel izinli olarak turnuvaya devam edebildi. Artı 84 kiloda tüm rakiplerini yenip birincilik kürsüsüne çıkan sporcu, altın madalyasını taktıktan sonra yeniden gözaltına alındı.

Denizli'de dün başlayan Büyükler Bay Bayan Türkiye Karate Şampiyonası'na milli sporcu Yaser Şahintekin'in gözaltına alınması damgasını vurdu.

Müsabakalar sırasında, sivil polisler de Yaser Şahintekin'i dikkatle izledi. Madalya töreninde kürsüye çıkan sporcuya, Vali Yardımcısı Kemal Özgün tarafından altın madalyası takıldı.

HİÇ UYUMADIM

Şahintekin, sonrasında sivil polislerce yeniden gözaltına alınarak Denizli Adliyesi'ne götürüldü. Nöbetçi mahkemeye çıkarak ifade veren Şahintekin, serbest bırakıldı. Artı 84 kiloda dünya şampiyonluğu bulunan milli sporcu, eşofmanlarıyla adliyeye götürülüşü sırasında, "Söyleyecek bir şey yok. Sabaha karşı saat 03.00'de aldılar. Daha hiç uyumadım. Ama yine de herkese teşekkür ediyorum" dedi.

GEÇMİŞİ BAŞARILARLA DOLU

Yaser Şahintekin, 2001 yılında milli takıma girip, Balkan Şampiyonası'nda yıldızlar kategorisinde başarısını uluslararası platforma taşıdı. 2003 yılında Uluslararası Boğaziçi Turnuvası, Karadeniz Turnuvası, Balkan Şampiyonası ile başarılarına devam eden Şahintekin 2004'de Balkan Şampiyonası, Golden Lig, Akdeniz Kupası, 2005 yılında Yunanistan'da Avrupa Gençler Şampiyonu ve aynı yıl Güney Kıbrıs'ta Dünya Gençler Şampiyonu oldu. 2006 yılında, Amerika'da yapılan üniversitelerarası Dünya Şampiyonası'nda ikinci, aynı yıl Sırbistan Karadağ'da yapılan müsabakada Avrupa Gençler Şampiyonu ve ardından Norveç'te düzenlenen Büyükler Takım Avrupa Şampiyonası'nda birinci olan takımda yarışarak adını Türk karatesine altın harflerle yazdırdı.

Şeker hastalarının yüzde 65'i bilinçsiz

It would be easy to have a pop at Manchester City after their 3-1 home defeat to Fulham on Sunday - so let's do just that. City's gutless surrender to a side that had only won once away from home all season has heaped the pressure on manager Mark Hughes, who has presided over a recent run of five defeats in their last six games. Nothing says 'You're getting sacked in the morning' like shots of a star player looking sullen on the bench as his team-mates struggle on the pitch, and the Eastlands fans greeted the introduction of Ched Evans ahead of Robinho with chants of "You don't know what you're doing", to add to the hard time they gave Hughes before the 3-1 defeat in Hamburg last week. The mass exodus from home fans that followed Clint Dempsey's second goal and Fulham's third is a worrying sign that Sparky's fire may finally have gone out. But, hang on a second - isn't all this a bit much? With the UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg visit of Hamburg coming up on Thursday, Hughes defended his team selection by insisting that the most expensive player in Britain needed a rest. It's not that much of a stretch to see why someone who allegedly asks reception for 40 condoms while partying at a Brazilian hotel needs to put their feet up every now and then. Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill was widely criticised - not least here - for playing a weakened side in Europe because he was prioritising a strong league finish. Now Hughes is getting abused for taking the exact opposite approach. If anything, Robinho's lacklustre performance once he did eventually come on justified Hughes's selection, but let's not get bogged down with details. Robinho was never meant to be a 90-minute, week-in week-out player. His best years at Real Madrid were spent generally either playing for the first hour or coming on for the final 30 minutes. If he had joined Chelsea as originally planned, he would most likely know every contour of Florent Malouda's hands from all that high-fiving when one replaced the other around the hour mark. Few managers would refuse such a player if they are not pre-occupied with balancing the books, but Robinho was not a player Hughes actively pursued. Of the players he did target personally, how many of Craig Bellamy, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Shay Given, Vincent Kompany, Nigel de Jong and Wayne Bridge can be described as bad signings? Securing European football for next season is obviously important if City's deluded owners still believe they can lure Kaka and his ilk to the club in the summer, but surely the club's long-suffering fans would rather end those '33 years and counting' jibes as soon as possible. And as for those other recent defeats, they came at Chelsea, at Arsenal, at Bundesliga-chasing Hamburg and at Aalborg, a club that began the season in the Champions League. Hardly the most shameful record. Like many other club's who live in the shadow of more illustrious neighbours, City fans have long sought credibility by projecting themselves as a 'real' club with 'real' fans. However, less than two years after Stuart Pearce led them to a league finish just six points above relegation, many seem to have already forgotten where they came from. - - - As tuned into the sporting zeitgeist as ever, ED would love to come up with a clever comparison between the Premier League season and the Masters. However, Federico Macheda's fortunate deflected winner against Sunderland put the mockers on equating Manchester United's faltering title bid with Kenny Perry's late capitulation. Besides, ED is allergic to dogstooth slacks. Along with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all winning and scoring hatfuls, the best of the rest cancelling each other out and the bottom sides proving mostly as bad as each other, a season that had promised so much looks as though it will end with business as usual. When the biggest stories to take away from an entire year's worth of football may prove to be Middlesbrough going down and Liverpool finishing second, it's hard to call it a vintage year. - - - QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Mark Hughes will need time to reshape the club the way he wants. He is building a new team. But he is a very successful manager and I am sure that he will soon have Manchester City challenging for honours." - Wise old head Roy Hodgson tries to put things into perspective for City fans. FOREIGN VIEW: Any game in which Fenerbahce and Galatasaray square up is never going to be the amicable, shall we say, but last night's game at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium was extra nasty. With the match grinding towards a 0-0 draw, Fener's Diego Lugano thought he'd spice things up by nutting Galatasaray's Emre in the back of the head, as you do. That Istanbul Kiss sparked off pandemonium both on the pitch and in the stands, with four players getting send off, fans hurling missiles on to the pitch and neither side closing the gap in leaders Sivasspor. Not only that, but three players and both coaches were sent off in a Brazilian derby between Juventude and Caxias which had been preceded by a so-called Fraternity Breakfast involving leaders of supporters groups, police officials and their own presidents in an attempt to promote peace between the rivals' sets of supporters. YOUR VIEW: Here's the good, the bad and the ugly from Friday's message board: kevmun82 - "Market Research has also shown that 100% of ED Writers are bored office workers killing time. But then (old joke alert) 62.8% of statistics are made up on the spot anyway. I actually thought it was a great effort today. Quality over quantity every time ED. And I'm with you on the James Corden thing. A fat bloke getting his belly out every five minutes does not make for good comedy. Although he did do a good job co-writing G & S." trouble_906 - "If companies removed internet access from employees who do not need to be online, that's most of them, the extra actual work being done would end the recession. Plus this ED @#$% would have about 20 readers so it would be taken off as well. Sounds like heaven to me." omobobo - "ED... This is freaking annoyingly boring... I could commit suicide reading this... the only piece of interest was the clashes... Monkey balls ED .. Monkeyballs.. P.S. David Ginola is gay... oops, I did it again... godamnit!! Lmao." Hmm... lmao indeed. COMING UP: All the best Premier League reaction with What the Managers Said, Winners and Losers and Team of the Week. There might not be any top-flight action today, but there is a full programme in the Championship, League One and League Two, with the first relegation and promotion issues potentially decided. Those MotoGP chaps are going to give the Qatar GP another go after rain caused it to be cancelled on Sunday, and we'll bring you LIVE coverage of that this evening.

The textile industry

The ANC's T-shirt suppliers were all South African, the ruling party insisted, after reports that it had sourced 850 000 T-shirts worth millions of rands from China.

"We needed two million T-shirts, that was the order," said ANC spokesperson Jessie Duarte.

"We used the services of a group of people who buy and print them. The suppliers bought the T-shirts, not the ANC.

"All our suppliers are South African. I don't know anything about the Chinese."

The Daily News on Thursday reported that the local textile industry had been dealt an indirect blow thanks to the alleged order for at least 850 000 shirts being placed with international suppliers.

T-shirt orders for the ANC, valued at R15-20 million, were given to Chinese manufacturers, further damaging South Africa's, Turkey already ailing textile industry, DA parliamentary candidate Rory Macpherson said.

The foreign order caused an uproar in the textile industry as the ANC and its allies had, in the past, targeted large retailers for selling Chinese textiles, saying they were undermining the job market.

Macpherson, who is himself involved in the textiles industry, said he was made aware of the order by a "concerned member of the ANC".

"In real terms, this order of 850 000 shirts is worth about R20m," he said.

"An order of this magnitude could keep several small CMT (cut, manufacture, trim operations) busy and alive for months."

The textile industry has been one of the hardest hit manufacturing sectors in the economic slowdown. - Sapa
